Skype: simple enough for two-year olds

Something as low-tech as reading a children’s story takes on a new meaning when two year olds use new media to communicate. While using Skype to talk with their cousin on the other side of the world, my children grabbed their favorite book of the week. They turned the pages, holding each picture up to the camera for their cousin to see.

Forget that it was pitch black in Stockholm, below freezing and time for bed. Forget the nine-hour time difference, the long waits between in-person visits and the numerous developmental changes the kids will experience before we meet again. For five minutes we were just reading a book, sharing a moment, together.

What came naturally to them was mind blowing for me.
